Our Process

Learn about our process for renovations and new home builds.

Our Process

Initial Consultation

To begin the process, we ask you to complete our New Client Information Form. This form gives us an essential starting point by outlining your preferences, budget, timeline, and the specific goals you have in mind for your project. It also allows us to better understand the style of home or renovation you are looking for, the features that matter most to you, and any challenges that may need to be considered before we move forward. By gathering this information at the outset, we can ensure our advice and recommendations are tailored to your circumstances from day one.

Your journey then continues with an in-depth initial consultation. During this meeting, we take the time to sit down with you and discuss your vision, lifestyle needs, and long-term goals in detail. We talk through design possibilities, explore your priorities, and answer any questions you may have about the building process. This is also an opportunity for us to share our expertise and provide guidance on what is achievable within your preferred budget and timeframe. By the end of this consultation, you will have a clearer picture of how your project can take shape, and we will have a strong foundation to move confidently into the design and planning stages together.

Site Visit

Waddell Projects will arrange a comprehensive site visit to assess the location and gather all the essential details needed for your project. During this meeting, we walk through the property with you, taking note of the layout, orientation, natural features, and any existing structures that may influence the design. This step gives us a clearer understanding of the possibilities available, as well as any site-specific challenges that need to be carefully managed from the start. By evaluating everything on-site, we can provide more accurate advice and ensure the design process begins on a strong foundation.

Whether you are building a brand-new custom home or planning a major renovation and extension, the site visit is one of the most important stages of the process. It allows us to gauge the scale of the project, identify opportunities to maximise space and light, and consider practical aspects such as access, drainage, and surrounding conditions. These insights are invaluable in shaping the design and construction plan, ensuring that the finished result is both functional and beautiful. The site visit also gives you the chance to share your ideas directly on location, helping us align our vision with yours and map out the best way forward.

Planning and Preparation

If you have not already arranged plans for your new home or renovation, Waddell Projects will guide you through the process of obtaining them. We connect you with trusted designers, architects, and draftspeople, helping you shape a design that reflects your lifestyle, budget, and site requirements. Our team is there to advise on key considerations such as layout, orientation, materials, and features that may enhance the functionality and comfort of your home. This guidance ensures you are not navigating the planning stage alone and that every decision contributes positively to the overall project.

If you already have plans prepared, we will carefully review them alongside you. This allows us to confirm that they align with your personal goals, the character of your property, and any site-specific requirements we identified during the consultation and site visit. We also work closely with your chosen designer to ensure the plans integrate seamlessly with our construction process, avoiding delays and costly revisions later on.

Estimate Options

Once we have gathered the initial details of your project, Waddell Projects will prepare a general estimate as the first step in understanding costs. This broad estimate is based on similar projects we have completed and the information you have provided so far. It offers a ballpark figure, helping you gain an early sense of the potential investment required before committing to more detailed planning. For example, depending on the scope and complexity, the general estimate may indicate something in the range of $200k per side for certain types of projects. While this figure is not final, it provides a useful starting point for discussions and helps ensure your expectations are aligned with what is realistically achievable.

Once the general estimate has been reviewed and you are comfortable to proceed, we move on to preparing a detailed estimate. This stage is far more comprehensive, giving you a full breakdown of all anticipated costs. We carefully account for materials, labour, permits, subcontractors, and any specialist requirements that may apply to your build or renovation. Our team also reviews any site-specific factors uncovered during earlier consultations or the site visit, making sure the estimate reflects the unique conditions of your project.

Contract Signing

After reviewing the estimates and confirming the details, the next step is contract signing. This formalises the agreement and clearly sets out the project terms, including timelines, payment structure, and the agreed scope of work. We take the time to walk you through the contract, ensuring you understand each part and feel confident before moving forward.

Once signed, we begin preparing for construction by scheduling trades, ordering materials, and confirming the timeline. This step marks an important milestone, as it ensures everything is in place and ready for the building process to begin smoothly.

Construction Begins

With the contract signed, we move into the construction phase where your vision becomes reality. This is the stage where plans turn into structure, and our experienced team works with precision to manage every detail, from foundations through to finishes.

We know construction can feel complex, so we focus on clear, ongoing communication. You will receive regular updates on progress, timelines, and upcoming milestones, giving you peace of mind throughout the journey. By coordinating trades efficiently and maintaining high standards, we aim to make the process smooth and stress-free. At Waddell Projects, construction is more than just building. It is the careful realisation of your vision, with every element crafted to meet our promise of quality and longevity. When the build is complete, you can feel confident knowing your new home or renovation has been delivered with care and excellence.
